Overview

Thien Cung Cave (Heavenly Palace Cave) was discovered in 1993. It is located in the North of Dau Go island about 4 km away from the Bai Chay Tourist Port. Situated 25 meters above sea level, Thien Cung Cave is the most glorious cave in Halong Bay which can be accessed through a narrow gate. The deeper tourists go into the cave, the more surprised they are by the splendor of many stalactites inside.

How to get there?

Thien Cung Cave lies in the heart of the World Heritage Site Halong Bay and becomes a very well-known destination that almost travel agencies include the cave in their daily and overnight cruising itineraries.

Inside the cave

Thien Cung Cave is about 25 m in height and 10.000 m2 in width, featuring complex structures with high ceilings and walls. Inside the cave, there are countless multi-level stalagmites, multi-story stalactites with unique shapes. From the cave ceiling, each cluster of stalactites pours down to form the magic stone curtains. In the center of the cave, there are four pillars. These pillars are decorated with soft flexible strangely-shaped carvings like plants, flowers, birds, fish... In the last chamber, natural lights streaming through the cave ceiling create a beautiful and surreal scenery. There is also a stream of water flowing from the mountain, clustering into a crystal clear lake inside.

Legend of Heavenly Palace cave

The legend about the ancient Dragon King said that: "After the Dragon King had helped people win the war against foreign troops, he returned to his mysterious cave. Then came the years of heavy drought, poor people lost their seasons and ran out of food, they had no choice but to find the Dragon King and ask for rain. Not afraid of danger, there was a young couple who determined to find the Dragon King.
 
Through the trials and tribulations, the couple finally found the mysterious Thien Cung Cave and begged the Dragon King to help with the rain. The couple then gave birth to a beautiful daughter named May (Cloud). When May grew up, she and the Dragon King fell in love and got married. Their wedding was held for 7 days and 7 nights in the center of Thien Cung Cave. The specially-shaped stalactites and stalactites such as dragons, elephants, lions, eagles that we see today are the holy animals and the fairies who came to celebrate the wedding of May and the Dragon King.
